I always feel like I want to comfort them. I am glad that I am learning things which I want to know on the medical field from being a nursing student. I would like to give care and service to those lack and in need of it. With all my efforts, I would like to pursue medicine; and nursing is a good preparatory (paramedical course).

My ambition is not really to become a doctor. I just want to help those who suffer and the best way to do that is to become doctor. I am aware of the fact that various diseases have been invading people and ruining their lives. There are severe cutaneous disease like epidermolysis bullosa; respiratory diseases like tuberculosis and SARS; cardiovascular diseases, all types of cancers, etc.

THE PHILIPPINES

Delimination: The cross-section or average of the filipinos in poverty are taken as an example. There are, of course, exceptions to generalization.

Some of my poor fellow countrymen who are legally ill just tolerate the pain that goes with it. Typically, they do not have enough money to counsult a doctor and to sustain their proper medications. Instead of having a medical examination, people would prefer to use the money to buy something to lay on the table for their family -- perhaps a half-kilo of rice and a very little viand (which they would just be "pinching" so that it could be shared to everyone) or perhaps just a cooked rice sprinkled with salt which would be divided to more than six members of the family -- a food just enough (or maybe not) to suffice their cramping stomach. That is how hard our health promotion is. The goverment cannot supply the adequate needs of the people.

I pertained to events in general. Even my family had experienced the same thing though (not about the food) . Instead for my father's medication for his kidney problem, we had to use the money to buy a food to eat.

The physicians' fee is unaffordable for the needy. I once said to myself when I accompany my auntie and her baby to a hospital, "These doctors are unbelievable! Just a 5-minute of questions, quick talks and palpatations..., then voila!..., they'd charge you P250!" It feels even worse when the advises that these physicians give are of common knowledge! Some would really kill you with their bills. Oh yeah! They're just trying to get back the expenses on their doctoral degree! Sometimes I feel like interviewing them. I wanna ask whether they are willing to serve without expecting anything in return.

I was one (again) disgusted with a doctor who didn't even give me a first aid or any pain healer when I asked my father to rush me to the hospital when I was in dysmenorrhea. I was in total agony. That is why I rushed to the hospital for the first aid, and for a time, I feel I was deprived of it.

Like what I always tell, I make generalizations. I have a great respect for doctors. My professors are doctors and they are so brilliant. I have nothing against them.

Tuberculosis, for example, is one of the major death-causing problems here in the country. People with this illness are to shy to come out. Eventhough the Department of Health has already advertised that TB is curable at its early stage. So prevention of worsening should be taken. They are so "ashamed" about it knowing that it is a communicable disease; and people would seem to be avoiding them. Public knowledge should be increased.

THE AFRICA
Some of the main health problems in Africa is the ARI, Diarrhea, HIV and malnutrition especially on the children. One of every eight people on Earth suffers from malnutrition, severe enough to stunt physical and mental growth and to shorten life. The primary cause of malnutrition here is the inability to afford necessary foods. Poor eating habits also play a major role. The elderly often develop poor eating habits because of ill health, depression, or limited income. Nutritional imbalance can occur as a result of fad diets and appetite-suppressing drugs. I would want to promote the adequate diet to these malnourished people.

My tears fell when was once touched when I watched an episode in Oprah. It is all about the people in Africa. A paraplegic woman had been isolated from her community. She had this kind of disease wherein the witchdoctor had to remove something from her reproduction system, causing her to stink even more. So she was settled up in a hill for the rest of her life. There, in a very small hut, she spent her every day gazing out of nowhere and her every cold night alone, without anyone to assist her. A relative had been visiting her every week bringing a food good enough for 7 days. She seemed to be very neglected and is pitiful. If there could only be a volunteer doctor to treat people like her, these things wouldn't have been happening. What do you think would you feel if you become isolated from your community bearing the torment of having suffered from a disease which makes you stink?

Numerous other diseases have been spreading especially on this part of the world. I hav e the courage to soon-risk-my-life just to help these people to ease even a part of their pain. I am a complex person with a simple life. Yet, a person who has a mounting dream. I love travelling. I appreciate nature's beauty. I love exploring the unknown and discovering on my own. I am a person who is a bit of everything. It seems like you could throw me anywhere. I love different topics. I love different point of views. I love who I am.

"Sic Parvis Magna", that is my motto. "Great things come from small beginnings". Everything seems to be possible (as long as it is with in reach). It is only if these things are dependent on your hands; and with God's approval. You can go beyond limits. Just be responsible enough with your everya actions.

I am in search for the true meaning of life. We should beware of idle moments. Make your stay in this enigmatical universe a super productive one, because there is no another ticket for a ride back here in this so-called "world" when you left it.

Call me weird, call me pathetic, call me ambitious... I care not (though I'm willing to accept criticisms). This is me... then? This is my passion! The main thing here is that I do this for my quest and for my service to my less fortunate countrymen and to those who suffer from pain in Africa and anywhere else. I do this for the love of God and for the love of my brothers.

Though eveything here (so far) are just a product of my mind and mouth, I will soon be taking larger steps toward my goal.

The Site

The concept of formulating this journal was made over a cup of sweet cafe au lait on a cold rainy night here in my room, with just a paper and pen. This is all about a journey of a nursing student who would work a hundred thousand miles to fulfill her dreamt service for the peopleI am just writing and encoding the things that circles my mind, the things which I want to say and share with. I will try to update this as often as I could. As long as my lectures do not yet demand my attention. As you well know, these said lectures and grades are my very passport in achieving the exact aim of this site.

The Introduction

The idea of generating this website came up when I was madly inspired by a man who calls himself the “coconuter”. A valedictorian in the USA and a person of opportunities who dropped everything and flew to his native land, the Philippines, to become a nomad.

He was my dream guy. Perhaps it was a love-at-first-sight. But yet, it seemed like everyone wanted him that is why I am still in search for my very own coconuter. I made this thing to be just like him (in my own little way); and to behold how and where our paths/fields would seize us in the end (though these are never-ending because just like him, we execute these by heart).

Eventhough I couldn't be independent so far (as I want to be), eventhough I couldn't bear living or spending a night over other houses, eventhough I'm not confident enough to live with just the basic commodities like coconuter does, I believe that I could somehow build my distinct way of attempting to explore and seek what could really make me happy; of what happiness really means because fulfilling your dreams to become contented is as good as describing that you are reaching the Nirvana.

Indirectly, it is the medical mission which could suffice my self-quest. It is about the things which I could learn by looking deeper into the reality through the medical field. It is not just a simple medical mission, I plan to serve to remote areas where death is just one misstep away, here in the Philippines and in accessible/inaccessible ares in Africa (or anywhere in need of my service) where Acute Respiratory Illness (ARI), Diarrhea, Malaria, AIDS and Malnutrition are the major dilemmas. I would like to go to places where most medical doctors cannot come across (or perhaps intendedly). I will give the details on my next articles.

Above all of these, readers shouldn't be lost by the fact that I am still an ambitious nursing student who would work my thoroughfare to that very moment that I've been waiting for; and this site will live for a drawn-out duration.

This website serves as a journal of all the happenings in my dream-related-life. I would be making drafts or I'd be encoding what are on my mind.

I hope you'd join me on this quest.
